MLB Betting Futures Coming Down To The Last Week
Major League Baseball is a long season that goes on for several months, and for gamblers that means that the betting can sometimes become a grind. For most gamblers, the majority of the betting in baseball comes before the season even starts, and it has to do with season win totals and division winners.Last year, underdog gamblers made their mark with several teams coming out of nowhere to win division titles. Most notably, the San Francisco Giants were not picked to win the National league West. The Giants not only won the West, but also the National League pennant and the World Series. That historical run sent hundreds of gamblers scurrying back to Las Vegas sports books to collect on long shot bets that were made before the year began. This season, it does not appear that as many people will be taking that trip back to Sin City, with favorites winning most of the divisional races. In the American League, the playoff picture is shaping up almost exactly as odds makers had predicted. The Yankees and Red Sox have been battling it out for the East title, which New York clinched on Wednesday evening. The Red Sox may likely still make the playoffs, as they lead the wild crad race by two games over Tampa. In the Central, Cleveland looked to foil the bookmakers early, but they have faded and the favored Detroit Tigers will be representing the division in the playoffs. Detroit has been one of the most consistent teams in the league this year, and they will likely have the Cy Young award winner in ace Justin Verlander.Out West, the Texas Rangers are on the verge of repeating as division champs. The Angels may sneak into the playoffs as the wild card, sitting only a few games behind Boston with one week left. The National League has the Phillies as the East champion, and the Brewers close to clinching the Central title. Milwaukee and Philadelphia both had short odds to win their divisions when the season began. St. Louis remains in play for the wild card, making up ground on Atlanta over the past two weeks. In the West, the Arizona Diamondbacks provide the only true underdog to potentially win a division this year. The Diamondbacks are leading the defending champion Giants, with the latter closer to a wild card spot than a division title.
